The internal mesh pocket stretches for multiple small items, but its narrow zip opening makes retrieving keys or chapstick difficult. The reviewer used the Able Carry Daybreaker daily for office commuting and shorter mountain outings, excluding longer trips and vacations. Side grab handles made lifting the pack easier when its top was turned away, such as while retrieving it from a car.

The spacious main compartment accommodates most contents, while an internal sleeve provides a dedicated location for a laptop or hydration bladder. The internal sleeve accommodates larger hydration bladders through some expansion, making it function effectively as a bladder retention system.

Reported strengths

  • The reviewer found the A-Frame straps preserved the pack’s bottom shape and secured items such as ice axes and ropes.
  • The reviewer found the wide, padded shoulder straps comfortable across outings, even when carrying heavier loads in the minimalist pack.
  • Side grab handles made lifting the pack easier when its top was turned away, such as while retrieving it from a car.

Reported trade-offs

  • With a mostly empty pack, the sleeve’s gusset sags around a laptop, allowing it to shift and bounce against the wearer’s back.
  • The internal mesh pocket stretches for multiple small items, but its narrow zip opening makes retrieving keys or chapstick difficult.
  • The expandable bottle pocket accepts a large bottle only tightly, and the reviewer preferred a narrower bottle for a better fit.
