The travel backpack's sternum strap clips securely but is difficult to undo, especially when a heavy bag pulls it against the chest. The reviewer found the harness comfortable enough to use without either the sternum strap or hip belt during extended airport walking. The daypack's top pocket organizes a passport, wallet, keys, and phone with slip pockets, a key leash, and padded separation.

Stretchy mesh bottle pockets on both bags accommodate large bottles, remaining usable even when the main compartments are fully packed. The structured main compartment accepts a Peak Design camera cube as well as packing cubes, toiletry bags, and other travel gear.

Reported strengths

  • The Peak Design Travel Backpack 2-in-1 connects its daypack with a zipper easily, creating a more cohesive appearance than other tested two-bag systems.
  • The reviewer repeatedly overstuffed the main compartment with travel gear and never felt its durable zipper was likely to fail.
  • The reviewer found the harness comfortable enough to use without either the sternum strap or hip belt during extended airport walking.

Reported trade-offs

  • When connected, the reviewer found that much of the usable capacity was lost in the daypack, with the travel backpack also giving up room.
  • The travel backpack's sternum strap clips securely but is difficult to undo, especially when a heavy bag pulls it against the chest.
  • The removable hip belt provides a padded pocket and attachment points, but the reviewer found its large size uncomfortable around the waist.
