The tripod side pocket cinches securely but lacks width and stretch, making even the reviewer's smaller softbox difficult to fit. The upper compartment opens widely with padded walls, flexible mesh pockets, and separated spaces that organize mounting hardware, handles, and smaller production accessories. The dedicated laptop compartment handled the reviewer's various computers, including a large Asus VivoBook, with a slight false bottom underneath.
Once fully packed, the removable waist belt shifts much of the load onto the reviewer's hips instead of leaving everything on the shoulders. The sculpted back panel keeps much of its padded surface away from the reviewer, promoting airflow during demanding camera carries.
Reported strengths
- The SmallRig Outra 25 Camera Backpack provides a large camera compartment, multiple quick-access areas, exterior attachment points, and a removable waist belt.
- The reviewer reports that wide side access reaches the padded camera bay directly, enabling quick retrieval while protecting equipment during outdoor shooting sessions.
- The upper compartment opens widely with padded walls, flexible mesh pockets, and separated spaces that organize mounting hardware, handles, and smaller production accessories.
Reported trade-offs
- The reviewer finds rear opening access slightly awkward because the harness and attachment points make access less straightforward.
- The tripod side pocket cinches securely but lacks width and stretch, making even the reviewer's smaller softbox difficult to fit.
- The reviewer still does not fully understand the zipper clip and barely uses side camera access because heavily packed bags are put down first.
