Reviewed sample: Timbuk2 · Deploy Convertible Backpack Pannier · Reviewed production revision unconfirmed · 28 liters (the source says the majority of the bag is this capacity). Historical publisher sample only; current production equivalence, stock and individual fit remain unverified. A complete CarryFacts specification record is not yet linked.
Sedlar reports straightforward organization: expandable bottle pockets, a magnetic front pocket, a side laptop compartment, and a large rolltop compartment. He also describes stable rack clips, padded back support, deployable shoulder straps, and a durable waterproof bottom. After several trips, he could change carrying modes in under a minute.
The compromises are practical. The bottle pockets may not accommodate a Nalgene, and the lower Velcro loop takes some fiddling. Wet pannier rides can dirty the back panel before backpack use, while the one-bag format limits cargo versus two traditional panniers. Check: the reviewed production revision is unconfirmed.
Reported strengths

- The conversion became quick with familiarity.

Reported trade-offs
- The single bag provides less cargo space than two panniers.
- Pannier use can leave the back dirty after wet rides.
- The lower Velcro attachment loop requires fiddling.
