Separate entry rules from storage options
A venue may permit a small bag, allow a screened exception, or turn away an oversized item. Storage may be in a different place, cost money, or be unavailable for the event. For the 2026 US Open, official event information says backpacks are not allowed and describes paid storage outside two entrances. Rogers Arena’s general FAQ instead allows bags within a stated size and directs larger items back to a vehicle or secure area.
These policies lead to different plans for a traveler arriving by train or rideshare. Read the exact event page and the venue’s current policy, then determine where your bag would go if refused. Do not assume that a venue with lockers or bag check can store airport-size luggage.
| Venue example | Entry statement | Storage implication |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 US Open | Backpacks prohibited; bags capped at 12 × 12 × 16 in | Paid storage outside specified entrances in event information |
| Rogers Arena | 14 × 14 × 6 in maximum in general FAQ | Larger bags must be returned to a vehicle or secure area |
| TD Garden | 6 × 4 × 1.5 in standard bag maximum | Fee-based bag check at North Station |
Measure what you plan to carry
Use the venue’s published dimensions and measure the bag packed. A small clear tote may still exceed the limit; an opaque clutch may satisfy size but conflict with a separate event rule. Keep bag type, transparency, item count and special exceptions as separate checks. The term “clear bag” does not by itself establish permission at every arena or event.
If the policy uses inch measurements, compare inches as published or convert with an explicit calculation. For example, 14 × 14 × 6 inches equals 35.56 × 35.56 × 15.24 cm. A source that rounds a conversion to 35 × 35 × 15 cm has rounded values; use the original published unit when close to the boundary.
Plan for exceptions and screening
Some venues list diaper, breast-pump or medical bag exceptions. TD Garden says these bags are subject to visual or X-ray screening and asks guests seeking additional accommodation to contact Guest Services in advance. A baby-bag exception at one arena does not grant an exception at another venue or at the airport.
Carry only the items needed for the event and keep exception items easy to identify. If the venue requests advance notice, contact it through the official channel and keep the response. The guide does not promise entry or interpret an individual accommodation request; event staff decide under the current policy.
- Check exception categories and any size guidance.
- Ask about screening and advance notice.
- Do not infer a venue exception from the airline allowance.
Choose a plan for what happens before and after
If you are carrying a work or travel bag, check whether you can store it at your hotel, station, airport or other official facility before arriving. Verify opening hours, size acceptance, payment and retrieval time. A bag check outside one gate may be too far from another entrance or may close before your return.
Save the current event page and storage details offline. If the venue does not offer suitable storage, arrange a different place before travel or reduce the bag to a permitted form. This avoids reaching the gate with an item you cannot take inside and no practical place to leave it.
