Reviewed sample: High on Leather · Leather Hiking Backpack · Reviewed production revision unconfirmed · Reviewed dimensions: 12.5″ L x 6″ W x 15″ H; tested carrying capacity included two full one-inch binders, one full half-inch binder, and about another half-inch binder. Historical publisher sample only; current production equivalence, stock and individual fit remain unverified. A complete CarryFacts specification record is not yet linked.

Chapman found useful room in the main compartment, which closed easily after loading binders. The front pocket accommodated an iPad Mini 4 and a thick pencil case, while the reviewer also used a side pocket for a 20 ounce water bottle and the other for a large battery. Positives include substantial leather in the exterior pockets, adjustable straps, and solid-feeling buckles.

The compromises are more consequential under load. The unpadded back allowed the bottom to press into Chapman’s lower back, and thin shoulder straps became painful during 30 – 60 minutes of carrying. A 15″ Dell laptop did not fit, and electronic devices need their own protective sleeve or case. Chapman also flagged thin leather at some closures and the handle as areas to watch. Check: the review did not establish weather protection, and the reviewer later said the bag was uncomfortable enough that she no longer used it.

Reported strengths

  • Spacious main compartment for the reviewer’s binder-based teaching load
  • Front and side pockets accommodated common accessories
  • Solid-feeling buckles and thick leather used on exterior pockets

Reported trade-offs

  • Unpadded back caused the bottom to dig into the reviewer’s lower back
  • Thin shoulder straps became painful during 30 – 60 minutes of carrying
  • 15″ Dell laptop did not fit, and the bag lacked padding for electronics
