For notebook use, the reviewer found the total lack of exterior pockets a shortcoming for carrying loose accessories. The LEttERbOX notebook pocket accommodated the reviewer's largish laptop and the child's longer, thicker notebook, though both fits required some wiggling. Because the shoulder straps cross the zippers, the reviewer had to remove the pack and loosen the halves before accessing contents.
The dual-bag arrangement worked well for expeditions because the reviewer could hand one loaded half to a family member while retaining cameras and other belongings. Using the SHeLL alone as a day pack worked well, although the reviewer wished for external beverage pockets and easy-access zipper pockets.
