The reviewer considered the lateral pocket unsuitable for passports or wallets because its zipper opened downward and lacked a way to secure it closed. The reviewer used the loose non-padded sleeve for papers, magazines, and headphone headbands, preventing those items from sinking into the bottom. The reviewer stored rechargeable earbuds in the small faux-fur pocket, keeping them easy to locate and preventing their case from opening accidentally.

The coated lower band helped keep the pack's bottom third from becoming soaked when placed on damp or dirty surfaces. The padded open-weave back reduced contact with hard edges from items stored in the rear laptop sleeve.

Reported strengths

  • The reviewer found the main compartment roomy enough for umbrellas, hard drives, lunch bags, and other everyday items.
  • The reviewer noted that two high-sewn flat pockets and three pen holders remain easy to reach while bulkier belongings settle below.
  • The reviewer used the loose non-padded sleeve for papers, magazines, and headphone headbands, preventing those items from sinking into the bottom.

Reported trade-offs

  • The reviewer found the Compass shoulder straps broad, but less padded than those on several other packs previously used.
  • The reviewer considered the lateral pocket unsuitable for passports or wallets because its zipper opened downward and lacked a way to secure it closed.
  • The reviewer found the short internal key strap unable to provide enough slack for using keys while they remained attached.
