The broad straps felt comfortable with a light day-load, but the reviewer says they would be unsuitable for an entire trad-climbing rack. Because it lacks a frame and overbuilt harness, the Gallagator is flexible enough to roll up or lie flat when empty. During travel, the reviewer stowed the Gallagator inside main luggage, although it is not strictly packable like Mystery Ranch’s In-and-Out pack.
The reviewer likes the tri-zip system because it exposes the full interior while also securing gear for retrieval through the top opening. For a beach walk, the reviewer easily loaded a raincoat, lunch, binoculars, and a bulky fleece because the interior offers abundant open space.
Reported strengths
- The reviewer describes the Gallagator as flexible enough for street days and trails, with several color options alongside the tested black.
- The reviewer reports that the lighter fabric remained plenty tough, while YKK zippers and Duraflex hardware showed no wear or damage during testing.
- Because it lacks a frame and overbuilt harness, the Gallagator is flexible enough to roll up or lie flat when empty.
Reported trade-offs
- In hot-weather testing, the spacer-mesh back panel and straps vented heat effectively, though the reviewer worried the mesh could eventually pill.
- The broad straps felt comfortable with a light day-load, but the reviewer says they would be unsuitable for an entire trad-climbing rack.
- The hydration sleeve separates some items but provides no protection for sensitive electronics and was too narrow for the reviewer’s 13-inch Chromebook.
